Former Coronation Street star Sean Wilson swaps cheesemaking for new gig being the face of a low cost security company
FORMER Coronation Street star Sean Wilson has really embraced his new career as a cheesemaker – signing up to star in an astounding advert for a Manchester security firm.
The actor, who starred as Gail Rodwell’s love rat nurse husband Martin Platt for 20 years, features in the somewhat cheesy promo for Max6mum Security.
In the clip, he gives the company his personal seal of approval, with his signature even being stamped across the screen.
But it doesn’t end there, with CGI trickery allowing him to work alongside a muscular superhero and floating locks and chains.
He says: “My name is Sean Wilson and I’m here to help you secure your homes and your street with a little help from Max – and his security products.
“From locks and high security handles to door chains, to door numbers and window locks and window restrictors, the Max 6 range make securing homes simple.”
It’s then time for his co-star to speak, with Max drawling in an American accent, “hey! I know you. You’re from Coronation Street!”
His acting talents kicking back in to gear, Sean replies: “Um, and other things!”
Max, who clearly has lived in the UK a while to be fully abreast of the 51-year-old’s dairy-based career change then tells less informed viewers what he’s up to now.
Sean swapped soap for cheese when he left Corrie, and his has won him a string of prizes.
Holding a large lump of yellow cheddar, Max enthuses: “Yes! Sean is an award-winning cheese maker with a keen eye for what makes a high quality product!”
Cheesy-plug finished, Sean continues: “Why do I choose Max 6? Because the whole range is affordable and easy to fit.”
The final moments of the advert see Sean and Max have a bit of ‘lad bants’ with the superhero teasing the star about how the range is so easy to fit even he can manage it.
Sean then jokingly threatens to take him out – and not to the Rovers for a swift half.
Then with one final nod to his cobbled history, Martin signs off by reassuring people that the firm “is right up my street”.
A Corrie insider told The Sun online that the ad has amused his pals back on the show.
They said: “Sean looks like he has been out of the game for a while!
“We had a laugh at it to be honest because the performance was cheesier than the cheese he makes these days.
“But knowing Sean from years ago it won’t bother him one bit – he probably had a laugh at when he saw the final cut.”
