Ed Sheeran fans slam singer for giving X Factor winner Matt Terry festive hit – and not keeping it for himself
Ed penned the winner's single but not everyone is happy
ED Sheeran’s fans are unhappy with the singer’s choice to write a festive hit for X Factor winner Matt Terry – rather than keeping it for himself.
Last month the Sun revealed that the award-winning singer/songwriter Ed had penned the winner’s single.
But after hearing the song last night during the finale, fans were fuming that Ed – who has taken a break from the limelight over the last year – was not realising the song himself.
One angry Ed fan questioned: “How did king ed sheeran agree to have a song written by him sung by matt f****** terry?”
While another wrote: "@edsheeran should never have given that song to @MattTerry93 - I want to hear Ed singing it not an X Factor winner. So mad."

And someone else tweeted: “No offence to Matt Terry but would love to hear Ed Sheeran sing When Christmas comes around 😁🎄🎅 #xfactor.”
Matt himself is delighted with the track, tweeting: “You're a genius. I don't think I could ever thank you enough @edsheeran 🙏🏽”
And it seems there are plenty of people out there who are big fans of Matt’s rendition of the song as it has already reached Number 2 on the iTunes chart.
One fan who was delighted about the collaboration tweeted: “OMG: Matt Terry + Ed Sheeran + christmas tune ---> it doesn't get any better than that! 👏🏼👌🏼 #XFactor #MattTerry #EdSheeran #Xmas #Perfect.”
Last year bosses of the ITV singing show were left red-faced when Louisa Johnson's debut track Forever Young - a cover of the Bob Dylan classic - ranked just 12th place in the UK music charts.
So this year they decided to reach out to the 25-year-old songwriter to guarantee they end up with a Christmas number one.
A source told us: "Everything Ed does turns to gold. To have him write the winner's song is huge and amazing news for this year's winner.
"All the remaining contestants have heard the track and it works for the majority. They can't believe potentially their first ever single will be written by Ed."
It was however previously revealed that the track wouldn’t be used by boy band 5 After Midnight or Honey G if they had won the show.
The insider explained: "The only chance his song won't get used is if 5AM or Honey G pull off a shock win. Then bosses might need to consider another one of their options."
Ed announced almost a year ago that he was taking time off from his music to focus on his friends and family after a few busy years in the limelight.
But that hasn't stopped him taking pen to paper as, not only has he written the winner's single for the singing competition, he's penned a number of hits for Justin Bieber and Robbie Williams in his downtime.
