Who was Michael Parkinson?
Michael Parkinson was born in 1935 in the pit village of Cudworth, South Yorks.
He left school with two O-levels and got a job collating sports results on his local newspaper.
Michael did a two-year military stint, and became the British Army’s youngest captain at the age of 20.
He returned to journalism then switched to television as a current affairs presenter and reporter for Granada in the 1960s.

However, on September 1, 2023, his death certificate revealed he died of "frailty of old age", according to the .
His son Michael registered the death on August 18, 2023 at Maidenhead Town Hall.
Michael died after a short illness, eight years after receiving the all-clear following treatment for prostate cancer.

A heartbreaking statement shared by Michael's family said: "After a brief illness Sir Michael Parkinson passed away peacefully at home last night in the company of his family. The family request that they are given privacy and time to grieve."
After his death family and friends paid tribute to the TV personality.
The BBC's director-general Tim Davie, said Michael was the "king of the chat show" and an "incredible broadcaster and journalist".
He said: "He interviewed the biggest stars of the 20th century and did so in a way that enthralled the public.
"Michael was not only brilliant at asking questions, he was also a wonderful listener.
"Michael was truly one of a kind, an incredible broadcaster and journalist who will be hugely missed.”
Michael said an emotional farewell to his lifelong pal Dickie Bird just hours before his death.
