Who’s in the new Baywatch movie and when is it released? Cast, date and trailer – all you need to know
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson leads the cast of the film version of the popular 90s TV show
Iconic '90s action TV show Baywatch is back - and taking over cinemas on the big screen in time for the summer.
The Baywatch movie, a reboot of the classic show that starred David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, will hit cinemas across the UK on May 29 2017. Here's what we know about the new movie.
Who is in the Baywatch movie?
Dwayne Johnson (Mitch Buchannon)
The professional wrestler-turned-actor leads the cast of the film as lifeguard Mitch Buchannon, the role made famous by David Hasselhoff in the TV series.
Dwayne is also one of the producers of the film and cast his wife Ilfenesh Hadera as his love interest Stephanie Holden - he is best known by his ring name The Rock and as a star of the films The Scorpion King and as Luke Hobbs in the Fast and the Furious movie franchise.
Zac Efron ( Matt Brody)
The heartthrob actor stars as the hunky lifeguard who was portrayed by David Chavet in the original TV series.
Zac is best known for his role as Troy Bolton in the High School Musical franchise and Bad Neighbours 1 and 2.
Kelly Rohrbach (C.J. Parker)
Kelly is taking over the role that made Pamela Anderson a worldwide household name and she will be seen running in slow motion on the sand wearing an attention grabbing red swimsuit.
"My suit was that neoprene scuba gear material so it really rides up. They [the film crew] would use glue and tape it to my bum so it wouldn't make a wedgie wrinkle," Kelly told GQ of her swimsuit.
Alexandra Daddario (Summer Quinn)
Roberta "Summer" Quinn (originally played by Nicole Eggert) was the centre of attention for Kelly Slater's Jimmy Slade and David Charvet's Matt Brody in the original Baywatch TV series.
It is possible Alexandra's Summer could become romantically involved with Zac Effron's Matt should the movie follow the character traits of the show.
Priyanka Chopra (Victoria Leeds)
The India-born actress stars as new character Victoria, dubbed as Baywatch’s new villain.
The 34-year-old actress, who has been recently romantically linked to British actor Tom Hiddleston, is a big Bollywood star and this film marks her Hollywood debut.
Cast members from the original TV series, David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson will make cameo appearances.
Ilfenesh Hadera (Stephanie Holden)
Stephanie Holden was originally played by Alexandra Paul in the original TV show - with her character being a major love interest for David Hasselhoff's Mitch Buchanan before being struck by lightening and killed in season 7.
Billions actress Ilfenesh Hadera takes over the role for the big screen - and her character is in a relationship with Dwayne' Johnson's version of Mitch.
Charlotte McKinney (Local resident)
Carl's Jr. burger promoting beauty Charlotte is hoping for her big screen break through with her undisclosed role in the Baywatch movie.
She has been cast as a local to the bay area - and can be briefly glimpsed cavorting in a bikini in the film trailer.
What’s the storyline of the new Baywatch movie?
No storyline has yet to be officially released but there is a synopsis that was issued by the studio.
It reads: “Baywatch follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron).
“Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay."
Where is Baywatch filmed?
Principal photography began in February 2106 on Deerfield Beach in Florida, with the film’s setting in Broward County, Florida.
Other scenes for the new movie were shot in Miami and Savannah, Georgia. In March 2016, filming moved to Tybee Island, Georgia.
The original TV series was, of course, filmed and set in Malibu, California.
Is there a Baywatch trailer?
Yes, the first official trailer was released on December 8, 2016 with a second one released on Wednesday March 22 2017.
It pays homage to the original TV series with bikini-clad ladies, explosions and that world famous slow-motion running.
And let’s not forget the cringey one-liners and Zac and Dwayne’s rippling torso shots.
