TV blow hat-trick for Melvin Odoom as ITV axe Saturday night show Bang On The Money after boot from Strictly and Xtra Factor flop
Things have gone from bad to worse after the presenter was axed from The Xtra Factor and booted off Strictly Come Dancing first
IT’S not been a great year for radio presenter MELVIN ODOOM.
The Kiss FM DJ was axed from hosting The Xtra Factor at the end of the last series and was the first celeb to be voted off Strictly.
I can now reveal his year has just got worse.
ITV has cancelled his Saturday night show Bang On The Money following just one series.
He presented the ill-fated hour-long game show with his radio co-host RICKIE HAYWOOD-WILLIAMS.
Speaking about the axing, he said: “Bang On The Money is not coming back.
“There is so much going on with ITV but we are having a meeting with the company who made it to come up with some new ideas. Hopefully we will have something.”
ITV sources say although there are no plans to renew the show, they hope to work with the pair again.
Melvin also admitted his experience on Strictly was humbling and that he hopes to redeem himself when he performs with pro JANETTE MANRARA on the Christmas Special.
He said: “It feels like I have done Strictly twice in the same year.
“It’s kind of insane because everyone on the Strictly special is Strictly alumni.
“It feels like I am with the elite forces. But it’s really funny.
“I’ve loved doing Strictly but it has made me realise I am not as good a dancer as I thought I was.
“I thought in the nightclub I was smashing it.
“But learning ballroom is insane. It’s nothing like I have done before.
“When I came out of the competition, I don’t think I was a terrible dancer.
“I think everyone this year has been really good.”
And he thinks next week’s Strictly final will come down to DANNY MAC, ORE ODUBA and LOUISE REDKNAPP.
Let’s hope he ends the year on a high with a cracking performance on the Christmas Special.
Rovers re-torn down
Coronation Street has had its issues over the years – fires, explosions, tram crashes – but I’ve never seen it in this state.
Weatherfield looks more like a ghost town in photos from the Quay Street set in Manchester, which is being torn down.
Filming moved to MediaCity in nearby Salford last year and it looks like half the set made the trip too.
The Rovers Return has been stripped bare and the cobbles have all been ripped up.
Emily Bishop would not be amused.
Doc Who Knows?
He may have been a Doctor Who superfan since he was young but PETER CAPALDI is in two minds about whether to continue as the Time Lord.
BBC bosses want him to commit to playing The Doctor into the next series, aiming to be on screens in 2018.
But Peter is remaining tight-lipped about whether to continue. He said: “I’ve been asked to stay on and I haven’t made my mind up about that yet, mainly because I don’t want to have to make that decision. I’m just putting it off for as long as possible.”
Peter first appeared as The Doctor in 2013, but it wasn’t his first time on the show – he was one-off character Caecilius in a 2008 episode alongside the then-Time Lord DAVID TENNANT.
If Peter doesn’t think quickly, they could have another regeneration on their hands soon.
SOAPBOX
ROXY Mitchell must have been walking under ladders in Walford Square, given the time she’s having on EASTENDERS.
Feeling lost after coming to blows with her sister Ronnie, she turns to Phil for advice.
But she’s got a lot of making up to do as Ronnie’s husband-to-be Jack has had enough of Roxy coming between them – and wants to cut ties.
On EMMERDALE, young Gabby and Liv get drunk together.
Liv thinks it’s funny to film her friend and put it on the internet, but things go from bad to worse when Gabby collapses unexpectedly and has to be rushed to hospital.
Later, dementia-sufferer Ashley hits Laurel.
