Phillip Schofield reveals HIS complete devastation at coping with the death of his father during live phone in on This Morning
The TV star opened up about the death of his father in 2008 on Wednesday’s show
PHILLIP Schofield has revealed his devastation at losing his father eight years ago during a phone in on This Morning.
During Wednesday’s show, Phillip opened up about coping after his dad Brian passed away while talking to a distressed caller about losing her husband.
Brenda called the show to speak with The Sun’s agony aunt Deirdre about her husband passing away after 36 years of marriage.
Her husband passed away from a stroke just months ago and she was struggling to cope with the prospect of facing Christmas without him.
Phillip, 54, was clearly touched by the woman’s story and opened up about his own experience of grief.
Speaking to Brenda, he said: “Someone said to me when my dad died: ’It’s like a bank account; the more love you put in, the more it hurts when they’re not around’.
He contined: “I was utterly distraught, and someone said to me, ‘You’re so lucky because when my father died, I didn’t feel anything at all, so I wish I felt like that’.
“The reason it hurts so much is because you loved so much, and if you loved that much, of course there’s going to be pain.”
During the show the presenter met newborn baby Mei, who was born at 11:04 on Wednesday morning, and was visibly emotional as she cradled her.
The baby’s father explained Mei was born by emergency caesarean and that her mother was still down in theatre.
Holly then asked if she could hold the little girl and became choked up as she proudly showed her to the camera.
She said: “I’m so happy, I can’t tell you. I might change jobs.
“I met her in her first hour of life! Why can’t it be me?”
Holding the baby to the camera, Holly explained: “She is not even an hour old.
“She is so special, so magical. [Looking down at the baby] I think I might be the second person to hold you.”
