Broody Holly Willoughby is overcome with emotion as she meets newborn baby on maternity special and jokes that she’s ‘never coming back’
The mum-of-three was in her element during the special episode of This Morning amid fan speculation that she's pregnant
HOLLY Willoughby has admitted she doesn't want to return to her job on This Morning after spending Wednesday's show on the maternity ward at St Thomas' Hospital.
The presenter met newborn baby Mei, who was born at 11:04 on Wednesday morning, and was visibly emotional as she cradled her.
The baby's father explained Mei was born by emergency caesarean and that her mother was still down in theatre.
Holly then asked if she could hold the little girl and became choked up as she proudly showed her to the camera.
She said: “I’m so happy, I can't tell you. I might change jobs.
“I met her in her first hour of life! Why can't it be me?”
Holding the baby to the camera, Holly explained: “She is not even an hour old.
“She is so special, so magical. [Looking down at the baby] I think I might be the second person to hold you.”
The mum-of-three has appeared increasingly broody as she spent Wednesday morning at St Thomas’ Hospital in central London.
Director of Midwifery Lynn Packanowski explained at the start of the show they had 29 women booked in, with six in labour.
Holly could barely contain her excitement as she walked around and met mothers in various stages of labour.
Her co-host Phillip Schofield stayed in the studio and presented the main show from there.
She showed viewers around the ward, admitting she’d had a water birth when she nipped in to see the facilities at the hospital, telling This Morning viewers: “I had Chester in the birthday pool, it best thing I ever did.”
During the special, Holly met her first baby, a tiny little girl who was born in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The TV star gushed over the new mum and baby before telling Phil she didn’t think she’d be coming back to join him on the sofa.
Later in the episode, she met Natalya who was in the early stages of labour.
Holly explained to viewers: “Natalya is in labour, she’s having a baby boy. She’s calm because she’s just had an epidural.”
The TV star was joined by Dr James who explained how they were caring for the women on the ward.
He said: “The midwives and the doctors work really closely together – we get involved if things get more complicated.
“We’re monitoring the baby’s heart rate and we’re monitoring Natayla’s heart rate.”
Before leaving the room, Holly told the woman “good luck” before adding: “If you could squeeze out another baby in the next one-and-a-half hours that would be great.”
Another couple Holly met wanted to thank doctors at St Thomas' for helping them have two healthy little boys.
During her time on the ward, Holly bumped into one of the midwives who helped her with breastfeeding after she gave birth to her son Harry.
Trinny Woodall also joined her at St Thomas’ to give some of the hardworking midwives, Sara, Sylvia and Chloe, a makeover as a treat.
The women were whisked off to the nearby ITV studios following the segment and were welcomed back at the end of the show.
Last week she revealed she’s hoping to help deliver a baby live on the show as part of a maternity special.
She told viewers she will be working alongside women in labour on a maternity ward.
Holly added: “We know one is born every minute but we’re hoping one will be born on the show and I’ll be on hand to witness it.
“Plus we’ll be going on the road with midwives and celebrating the wonderful work that they do.”
