The acting duo, best known for playing Kat and Alfie in BBC1's EastEnders were on the talk show to discuss their forthcoming drama Redwater.

But conversation soon turned to their long-standing relationship which has spanned nearly two decades and seen them perform on stage together in The Perfect Murder earlier this year and start rehearsals for panto later this month.

Lorraine asked: "You two work together so much, you get on so well - has there never been any romance between the two of you?"

To which Shane put his head in his hands and quipped: "We're just very good actors. Shut up - no!"

He added: "We're coming up nearly 16 years now since we met on the Square. I mean our kids were born around the same time."

The pair will next be seen together when they star as Robin Hood and Maid Marion in pantomime at The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton from December 17.

On screen they'll be fighting it out in the Christmas special of Lip Sync Battle.

Both admitted they were "so nervous" about taking part in the Channel 5 show.

Jessie explained: "You can't allow yourself to go wrong as you're miming to someone else and I was dancing - and anyone who knows me, knows I can't dance."

Redwater, which the pals describe as a standalone drama with no mention of Walford or Albert Square, will see Kat and Alfie travel to Ireland to find Kat's long-lost son.
