I’m A Celebrity winner Scarlett Moffatt reveals story behind her lift phobia

The jungle queen says she got trapped when she was younger

With her penchant for smiley lift selfies, fans of I’m A Celebrity have questioned Scarlett Moffatt’s claims about her fear of confined spaces.

But The Sun’s TV Magazine can now reveal the truth behind the jungle queen’s phobia, which led her to get upset about facing the Cavern of Claws for her final trial.

Scarlett said on Sunday night’s show that she was terrified of the challenge which would see her concealed in a cave.

“I can feel myself getting upset. But I feel if I can do this I might finally be able to go in lifts because I was on the 34th floor out here and I walked the stairs because I can’t stand small spaces,” she said.

The comment prompted fans to point out the various social media posts where she can be seen posing in lifts with her boyfriend Luke Crodden.

However, speaking about her fears before heading into the jungle, Scarlett explained: “I’m really claustrophobic. I get scared of lifts. And I can’t stay in a room without a window.

“Where I lived at university my friend just had a skylight and that freaked us out. This is because when I was a kid we went to Fuengirola and my uncle threw a beach ball in the lift. I went in and he pressed all the buttons.

“I was only trapped in the lift for about three minutes but at that age I thought I’d been there the full fortnight!

“I’ve been traumatised about lifts ever since. And I don’t like the dark.”

Here the Gogglebox star chats about her boyfriend Luke, dealing with fame and what’s next for her now…

How does your boyfriend Luke cope with your fame?

It’s nice because it means we get to chat to loads of people - it’s never boring on a night out!

Had he met the family before he was first filmed on Gogglebox with you all?

Yeah but he hadn’t been to the house. In hindsight I probably wouldn’t have had the first time he came to my house filmed because I didn’t realise how intimidating it would have been. But he really gets on with me mum and dad. He’s just really chilled. They really like him. My little sister loves him because even though he knows nothing about Pokemon he pretends he does.

Has anyone famous ever tried to chat you up?

No. One of the questions people keep asking – cos obviously I’ve lost weight – is: ‘Do you get more admirers now?’ I’ve got a boyfriend so I wouldn’t even notice it if people were looking at us. Plus, I don’t view myself as a sexy person. I cringe when people ask questions like that. I can feel myself going red.

Who do you think has been the most worthy I'm a Celeb winner over the years?

I really liked Stacey Solomon. I loved her. She was just so funny and down to earth. She had no airs and graces. I like people who can laugh at themselves. And Vicky (Pattison) because she wore that flying squirrel outfit. That was comedy gold. That was one of the highlights of I’m A celeb last year.

How would you have got on with some of the classic villains like Janice Dickinson, David van Day or Lady C?

I loved Lady C. I love anyone that accessorises in the jungle. That was brilliant that she wore pearls and she never took them off. There always has to be someone who’s a little bit controversial. It makes life a little bit more interesting.

You did say that if you were Prime Minister for the day you would make McDonalds do all-day breakfasts. What else would you change?

I mean I do know there are more things in the world that need doing but I thought that would make people a lot happier. I would make anyone who is evil on social media never be allowed on social media again. It really affects young girls and boys. If I was Prime Minister I would make sure they had education in schools about how social media affects people. You should do that at primary schools because primary school kids are on social media.

What show would like to be on after I’m A Celebrity?

I would love to do An Idiot Abroad. But with less moaning. I loved watching that because it was actually interesting as well. You got to see loads of cool things.
