However, he received the news he was runner-up with a huge smile, as he congratulated campmate Scarlett.

Speaking of his time in camp, Joel said: “You forget that the cameras are there and you live in a weird jungle feel.”

He went on: “I knew it was going to be good but I didn’t expect it to be this good.

“I didn’t think a bit of chocolate this big would be me go…”

Asked what he’d miss, Joel replied: “I am going to miss the simplicity of it, we talked about how scary it would be on the outside world… But you have nothing in there. It’s so simple in there.”

Speaking about walking the plank on day 1, his biggest fear, Joel added: “It was definitely the hardest. It took a while, sorry you had to extend the programme. I took two steps in and that’s the closest I came to saying ‘I have to stop this’.”

“I took that feeling to the rest of the show.”

And Joel went on: “If I had had to deal with people arguing in camp, I don’t think I’d have been able to do it.

“I felt like I was a UN ambassador.

“I can’t believe I’m in the top two. It feels like Brexit all over again.”

On tonight's show viewers watched as the final three took part in an individual trial to win a course for dinner for each of them, plus a treat and a drink for themselves.

Joel took on the stomach churning Bushtucker Bonanza for his last horrah.

Sat at the jungle dining table he was presented with a total of ten dishes, five classic Bushtucker and five lovely dishes.

As per usual Joel used his humour to get through the task - something which has helped him win over the public over the last three weeks.

It hasn't been just gags though - he's also opened up about a number of personal issues.

In the Bush Telegraph, Joel said: “Being in here around all these people who are very happy in their relationships made me evaluate a lot of things and makes me feel a lot about what I want.”

Asked by Scarlett if there was anyone at home he said: “I started dating someone before I came out here.

"I am genuinely looking forward to seeing her again but the problem is that I immediately go away for work again. It’s just really hard because I go, ‘I really like you, see you in March. It’s hard to date a normal person who has a normal job. A muggle, if you will.”

As Scarlett said her boyfriend works in an office, Joel added: “Yes but you don’t work at night, whereas I film during the day and pretty much gig every night... Basically I need to date someone who does nightshifts like a nurse, or Batman or strippers."

Scarlett was previously hoping that love might blossom between Joel and Carol Vorderman - as they flirted outrageously on a number of occasions during their time together.

Joel also used his time in the jungle to address  the intimate Skype sex tape of him was leaked online.

He told his campmates that he was “catfished” by a girl he had been chatting to online, mistakenly believing they were having Skype sex – and described the horrific moment as a “porno Gogglebox”.
