Mary Berry US baking show is a flop after it’s beaten by american football and The Big Bang Theory
The American version of the Bake Off failed to rise to the occasion in its debut
MARY Berry's US baking show has flopped as much as an under-cooked sponge in the ratings.
The legendary baker had taken The Great British Bake Off format across the pond to present the latest series of The Great American Baking Show, but it failed to rise to the occasion.
After debuting earlier this week, ratings revealed the ABC show pulled in 4.61 million viewers, crumbling under the strain of competing with Thursday Night Football, which takes a look at all the action in the NFL and pulled in 16 million viewers, and comedy series The Big Bang Theory.
The Great American Baking Show was picked up by ABC after a limited-run Christmas special called The Great Holiday Baking Show.
It saw Mary, 81, judge the bakers alongside American pastry chef Johnny Luzzini, while the hosts are My Big Fat Greek Wedding star Nia Vardalos and her husband, Cougar Town actor Ian Gomez.
While Mary will hope ratings rise as the series progresses, she has plenty of options to fall back on in the UK either way.
After parting ways with the Bake Off following the decision for it to move to Channel 4 earlier this year, the baker has a number of projects lined up with the BBC.
