Who is Josephine Skriver? Victoria’s Secret model and LGBT advocate – here’s what we know
JOSEPHINE Skriver has had an illustrious modelling career already - despite only being 23.
Becoming a hot favourite for the most high-fashion brands on the market, her career piqued when she wore a glittering Swarovski number at this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion show.
Here's everything we know about the Angel...
Who is Josephine Skriver?
The Danish model was raised in Copenhagen by her parents and, at the age of 15, was signed by Unique Models.
As demand for the star grew, she actively decided to avoid pursuing a modelling career until she had finished school in 2011.
Josephine debuted in fashion shows in 2011's Autumn/Winter collections, with shows including Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Yves Saint Laurent and Givenchy. She closed the season for Prada.
Since that time, Josephine has walked on over 350 catwalks for the most-known names in fashion, including Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli, Victoria Beckham, Paco Rabane and Stella McCartney.
As well as being a catwalk model, she has also participated in a host of campaigns including Tom Ford, H&M, MAC make-up, Tommy Hilfiger and Gucci.
She has also featured in spreads for several Vogue magazines across the world (including Vogue Italia, American Vogue and Vogue's in Japan, Germany, China and Brazil), as well as spreads in acclaimed publications including Vanity Fair and Marie Claire.
How did Josephine become an advocate for LGBT rights?
Josephine has been public about her support for LGBT rights having grown up as part of the community.
Both her parents are openly gay and conceived her and her younger brother, Oliver, through a series of IVF treatments.
She told i-D magazine in May: ""When people look at me and know that I'm an IVF kid, I hope to see a person, I hope they see a human being just like anyone else," adding: "You get so many, like, 'She's not made the natural way, she shouldn't even be here.'
"But I'm not a science experiment. I'm not synthetic. I am a real human being. I am just as real as you are."
The model added: ""I just hope that one day the concept of 'family' will mean a lot more than the traditional straight couple, with two kids and a house with a white picket fence. For me, family is a group of people bound by love! Love is what makes a family!"
She was made a celebrity ambassador for the Family Equality Council in the US in 2015.
When did she become a Victoria's Secret Angel?
Josephine first walked for Victoria's Secret in 2013 and has appeared in iconic Victoria's Secret Fashion Show every consecutive year since.
It was announced in February 2016 that she was officially one of the company's contracted Angels.
At the 2016 fashion show in Paris she wore an outfit adorned with 450,000 Swarovski crystals, making it one of the most extravagant outfits on the runway bar the £2.5million diamond Fantasy Bra worn by fellow Angel, Jasmine Tookes.
