As it was broadcast from Yorkshire seaside town Whitby, the presenters shared footage from the Italian tour with fans - who rejoiced as it once again focused heavily on the cars themselves.

Featuring super cars including an Aston Martin DB11, a Rolls Royce Dawn and a Dodge Challenger Hellcat, the trio embarked on their own mini tour, exchanging their usual endless banter and stunts throughout.

In fact, Twitter users have claimed it's the best yet, and back on track following mixed reviews in the first two episodes.

Described as "a typical gentleman's tour of Italy", the latest Amazon Prime offering saw Jeremy and James showing off their Aston Martin DB11 and Rolls Royce Dawn.

However, they were overshadowed early on by Hammond in the Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

Not content with a simple meander through the countryside, the stars pulled off some jaw-dropping doughnuts in Florence, before hitting the Mugello racing circuit.

One fan wrote: "Episode 3: Top Gear on steroids, and far, far, better! WOW!"

While another added: "Episode 3 of #TheGrandTour was amazing! I want Jeremy's Aston and especially James' Rolls-Royce Dawn!!!"

And one tweeted: "Watching the #grandtour episode 3! The best episode from the guys in years! Wow I'm glad I got #amazon #prime."

While another added: "Episode 3 of @thegrandtour  is just awesome! The boys have done it again."

The show attempted to explain the inspiration behind The Grand Tour name, as they embarked on the mini tour through Tuscany.

They revealed the original Grand Tour was the 18th century version of the Cannonball Run.

One scene, which had been teased previously in the trailer, featured Hammond cornered in an Italian city by crowds of people.

It all happened after his co-stars secretly arranged for the 'stampede' on Twitter without his knowledge, before leaving him there.

And of course it featured a star 'dying', and this week the unlucky actor was Simon Pegg.
