What time are the 2017 Golden Globes, who’s nominated, who is hosting and how can I watch in the UK?
It’ll be the 74th ceremony celebrating the best in film and television
IT’S a big part of the Hollywood awards calendar and is normally seen as the precursor to the Academy Awards.
But the Golden Globes are equally as prestigious, and it always proves to be a night of great entertainment, normally from the host which for the last four years has been actor and comedian Ricky Gervais.
This year's awards are taking place on January 8 in Los Angeles - but what are the Golden Globes all about and will Ricky return as master of ceremonies? Here’s what we know.
What are the Golden Globes?
The annual Golden Globe Awards takes place in Los Angeles at the beginning of the year and honours the best in film and television, domestic and foreign.
The ceremony includes a dinner and the ceremony which is usually hosted by a well-known TV personality or comedian.
The ceremony is a major part of the film industry’s awards calendar even though it also recognises television talent too.
However, it was announced in early November that Meryl Streep will be receiving the Cecil De Mille Lifetime Achievement award, named after the director and producer that won the very first one in 1950.
Who is hosting the 2017 ceremony?
After five years at the helm, British comedian and actor Ricky Gervais will not be returning to the show this year.
Instead, actor and TV personality Jimmy Fallon will be master of ceremonies.
Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic will host the red carpet coverage.
