The former One Direction band mates met up at the American Music Awards and had a rather awkward greeting
NIALL Horan reached out to Zayn Malik at the American Music Awards and his former band mate appeared stunned by the gesture.
Niall reached out to shake Zayn’s hand as he walked past his chair, seemingly catching the 23-year-old off guard, after admitting they hadn’t spoken in months.

Surrounded by his entourage, Niall, 23, appeears to spot Zayn out of the corner of his eye and runs forward.
Stretching out his hand, Zayn gingerly shakes it before Niall runs off.
Fans of One Direction were quick to poke fun at Zayn’s reaction online.
One tweeted: “Look how shocked Zayn was when Niall approached him.”

Another commented: “Zayn looked like he didn’t think Niall would say anything and looked shocked when he did.”
Prior to his performance of his first solo single, This Town, at the awards show, Niall admitted it had been a while since he’d seen the Bradford born star.

He said on the red carpet: “I haven’t spoken to him in a few months or whatever, and haven’t seen him in a while, so I’m looking forward to seeing him.”

Zayn went on to win the Best New Artist gong but was accused of making a joke at the band’s expense when he picked it up, quipping: “This just says my name on it right?”
He continued in a more gracious fashion however and thanked fans for their support after leaving the band in 2015.

He said: “My family, my mum, my dad, everybody in my family who’s been supporting me this last year, especially my dad actually, so thank you, dad.
“Also big, big, big thank you to my f****** fans because you guys have been sick. I didn’t expect anybody to still vote for me so thank you for voting for me. I’ll put it on my fireplace.”
