SNAKES tried to strangle Martin Roberts in I'm A Celebrity's latest task because they didn't like his singing.

The Homes Under the Hammer presenter - who's been rowing with Danny Baker in the ITV show - made another enemy in the Hell Hollow task as the snakes began to strangle him in a tense trial.

Ant and Dec explained that it was a two part trial. He was faced with a gnarled old tree stump.  Hidden under the tree stump were 12 stars, each one representing a meal for camp.

In the first part of the trial, Martin had six minutes to work his way down four hollows collecting six stars.  In the second part, he had a further six minutes to collect six stars in the fifth and final hollow.

“This is one of my greatest fears” said Martin. "Confined spaces. Don’t do them. This is really bad.”

The first part of the task saw Martin make his way through a series of chambers underground, facing lizards and snakes.

Unfortunately Martin dropped two stars during the first part of the trial, not realising they'd fallen out of the bag.

He then made his way to the final hollow. Ant advised him to put all of his stars in his bag.  “Thanks for that bit of advice a bit too late” replied Martin. “They were in the bag, I just didn’t do the bag up” he complained.

It was then round to the second half, and panicking in a water-filled coffin, Martin tried to remain calm but ended up shrieking that the snakes didn't like his singing and were taking their slithery revenge.

"Right, you're filling a coffin with water?" he said as the task began, apparently just catching on about what was happening to him.

But as the snakes begin to fall onto him, he screamed before saying: "This is my worst nightmare."

Turning to the many, many snakes joining him in the coffin, he then told them: "Hi, nice to see you, I'm not edible, I'm completely inedible.

"Was that a star or was that another snake? That was another snake."

But as they began to slither up to his head, he began to sing to keep himself calm, but it failed.

"They don't like the song, they're trying to strangle me," he said, his voice itching higher and higher. "They don't like the song!"

The task, which aired during tonight's episode of the show, sees the largest number of snakes used in any I'm A Celebrity stunt be deployed.

And it comes after the producers introduced the most amount of critters in the show's history in a previous trial this series.

More than 120,000 creatures fell on Goggleboxer Scarlett Moffatt, 25, Olympic gold medallist Sam Quek, 28, former Strictly pro Ola Jordan, 34, and Diversity dancer Jordan Banjo, 23.

They entered the Tomb of Torment, where they endured rats, mealworms, spiders, crickets and cockroaches.

It was their punishment for failing a challenge set before they had even entered the jungle.
