But the businessman fears he might find politics 'frustrating'
PETER Jones is well known for his no nonsense comments on Dragons' Den, but he's now admitted he's up for being the next Prime Minister.
Appearing on ITV's This Morning, the entrepreneur was pushed into saying whether he'd like to get into Number 10.
Referring to America's Donald Trump, host Holly Willoughby asked: "Recently we have seen a businessman become the President of America - your name has been mentioned so many times - could we be looking at our next Prime Minster?
"Would you consider it?"
Peter admitted: "I have never considered it until this week – I went to a dinner and Charles Saatchi said 'you need to be the next Prime Minister, because it can happen'."
He went on: "I have to say probably yes - I can't believe I'm saying it.
"Even Tara my other half has been saying you should do it."
Although the businessman added that he was wary of the word "politician".
"Just the word politician – I'm sitting on a sofa, looking down the lens and I'd want to say what should be done whether it's good or bad," he went on.
"I wouldn’t want to be ‘political’ and spin a story – I'm a bit too straight for that."
But Peter, 50, added: "I advised the civil service for three years - I quite like the fact that I can walk out of Number 10.
"I think I’d find government very frustrating – I like to get things done and I don’t think a lot doesn’t get done."
And it seems like he'll have more than a few votes from This Morning viewers as they hit Twitter to support the idea.
One said: "Music to my ears! Peter Jones for Prime Minister, yes, yes, yes! @dragonjones @thismorning #straighttalking #hero".
Another added: "Wow! Peter Jones for Prime Minister.Go for it let's get some straight talking at last".
