Paul Cattermole dead latest — S Club 7 star’s cause of death ‘not suspicious’ as Hannah Spearritt ‘broken’ over passing

TRIBUTES have poured in as fans discovered S Club 7 icon Paul Cattermole has died just months before the group's reunion tour.

The 46-year-old singer had been set to join his bandmates in a series of long-awaited gigs later this year.

A source told The Sun: “Everyone is in pieces. No one can believe it. There is a real sense of horror and disbelief.”

Bandmate Hannah Spearritt is said to have "broken down" after hearing the devastating news.

Paul's family said the star's death is not being "treated as suspicious" after he was found in his £172,000 Dorset home on Thursday.

    S Club 7 star Paul Cattermole told a fan he was ”buzzing” to reunite with his bandmates the day before he died.

    The 46-year-old singer, in one of his last conversations, was said to be “smiley and upbeat” ahead of the group’s reunion tour in October.

    The fan, a man who bumped into Paul close to his flat at lunchtime on Wednesday, said: “I was a big fan of S Club back in the day — they were my era — and I particularly liked the girls.

    “But I knew Paul lived in the area and he was very happy and chatty when I introduced myself.

    “He told me the band were going back on tour and couldn’t hide how excited he was about it. He was beaming when he said, ‘I’m going to smash it — it will be brilliant!’”

    The fan said they parted with a friendly handshake when the star told him he was heading off for lunch with a friend.

    Police found Paul’s body the next day at his home in Wareham, Dorset, and are not treating his death as suspicious.

    A man, who asked not to be identified, said: ”I distinctly remember how well he looked.

    “He was dressed in a black coat, jeans and trainers so it knocked me for six when I discovered he’d died the next day.

    ”He was smiley and upbeat and had so much to look forward to then the next day he was gone — it’s just awful.”

    Scottish broadcaster Lorraine Kelly described Paul as “gentle and shy” as she paid tribute to the singer.

    “This is so sad. Lovely man and he was so looking forward to the #sclub7 reunion,” she tweeted.

    “Interviewed them all many times and struck by how gentle and shy he was.”

    Lizzie Cundy wrote: “So shocked and sad to hear S Club 7 Paul Cattermole has passed away. Such a lovely guy . All my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

    Actor Jeremy Edwards – who was previously engaged to Paul’s bandmate Rachel Stevens – said: “RIP Paul Cattermole. My thoughts and love go to all your friends and family.”
