The Apprentice candidate Dillon St. Paul slammed after making ‘racist’ comment about Karthik Nagesan
The Irish contestant found himself under fire for mocking him about his Indian heritage
VIEWERS of the Apprentice were left reeling last night after Irish hopeful Dillon St Paul made a "racist" comment about his fellow contestant Karthik Nagesan.
Many watching at home took to Twitter to slam his remark during a task which was focused on Indian fashion.
Karthik said he should lead the task, especially when it came to buying a Lehenga, which is an Indian outfit worn by women because "this is my culture".
They raced around London trying to source nine items for the lowest price possible.
Karthik took his time with shop openers and engaged them in conversation in an attempt to get a good deal but Dillon vented that he was time wasting.
While he did a good job, not everyone was impressed and Dillon bemoaned his methods to the camera.
He said: "Karthik's negotiation technique is basically Indian chit chat. There was a lot of time wasted at the start. He should have just asked 'Where is your lehenga? Can I see it?"
Viewers at home were shocked and many took to Twitter to slam his outburst.
One wrote: "Indian chit-chat...are you actually allowed to say that? #TheApprentice" while someone else said: "Oh yay. It's the episode where they bait them into being horrendously racist #TheApprentice."
Another said: "They're dissing him for "Indian chitchat" but he got the deal #TheApprentice.”
Dillon commented: “I would never intentionally set out to say something derogatory. I apologise if my comment caused offence, it was not intended in that manner.”
However, the duo normally get on and other viewers were loving their "bromance".
One viewer wrote: “The friendship between Dillon and Karthik is adorable tbh #TheApprentice."
Dylan clearly agreed, taking to Twitter to say: “Bromance! @Karthik_Nagesan Another week another hug! #HugBoss.”
The Apprentice continues Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
