The X Factor fans in uproar over Sam Lavery’s choice of ‘Girl Band’ song
They angrily took to social media to question the theme of this week’s live show
THE X Factor fans angrily took to social media tonight as they questioned the theme of this week’s live show.
Last week, the wheel revealed that tonight’s theme would be Boy Bands vs Girl Bands, with each act choosing a song of either to perform.
Samantha Lavery, who is being mentored by Simon Cowell, was given a Girls Aloud song, but she wasn’t happy and decided to change it.
The song she went for was the girl group’s version of the Pretenders ballad I’ll Stand By You, prompting angry viewers to take to Twitter to slam her for not knowing who originally sang the song, the show for not correcting her – and for allowing her to sing it.
One wrote: “Oi Shouty Sam, it's a Pretenders song, not Girls Aloud,” while another added: “I'll stand by you by Chrissy Hynde & The Pretenders! Not Girls Aloud!”
One user scoffed, “The Pretenders aren't a Girl Band are they?” and another agreed and wrote: “Since when were The Pretenders a 'girl band'.”
One viewer was so outraged they wrote: “#XFactor so disrespectful when they attribute a song to someone who covered it. Chrissie Hynde sang this first and best.”
And another user said: “Love this song but no one can do it better than Chrissie Hynde.”
Fans also questioned Nicole Scherzinger’s choice of song for her act Matt Lavery who opened tonight’s show with his rendition of Wham!’s I’m Your Man.
While most of his faithful female following gushed and swooned over him, many questioned the song choice and wondered why this week’s theme hadn’t been adhered to.
One wrote: “Since when was Wham a boyband?? #XFactor making up the rules as they go along again!”
Another added, “What is the theme this week?” as another said: “I wouldn't class Wham as a boyband.”
