Ed Balls’ improved Quickstep STILL sees him bottom of the Strictly Come Dancing table

Fans flocked to support him on social media after he polled his best personal score - and was slammed by Sir Alan Sugar

STRICTLY Come dancing survivor Ed Balls dressed up as a comedian and showed off a snazzy Quickstep but STILL remained rooted to the bottom of the leaderboard tonight.

The ex politician again polled the lowest score, clocking up just 27 from the four judges despite them gushing over his ";slapstick" routine.

Yet his loyal fans may well save him from tomorrow night's dance off, after taking to Twitter to show their support - and SLAM Sir Alan Sugar's criticism of his performance.

Meanwhile WAG Louise Redknapp stole the glory with a saucy Argentine Tango which saw her given 10 from every judge except Craig Revel Horwood, who marked her one point down with a nine.

This meant she and partner Kevin Clifton rounded off Saturday night's dance extravaganza with 39 points.

Ed and partner Katya, who danced to Beatles track Help, can maybe take heart from the fact 27 is his highest score yet - and one up from the 26 he polled in last week's Halloween-themed episode dancing a wacky Cha Cha Cha.

Clocking up his personal best, judge Len Goodman revealed he enjoyed the themed dance and gushed: "All you need is love from the public and you will be back.

"I would like to see you here."

Fans also flooded social media with messages of support and angrily hit back at Sir Alan Sugar, who wrote: "Len telling public to vote for @edballs because he is entertaining. He can't dance but he's entertaining !Isn't this a dance contest ?"

One impressed viewer wrote: "Wow wow wow @edballs his best dance ... brilliant."

Another posted: "I voted for @edballs three times online!" while another claimed they had done the same in a message with an Emoji tick.

An excited fan gushed: "He was sooper dooper tonight," and another wrote: "Um, Ed Balls was pretty good tonight. In between all the faffing about, that was a decent quickstep. Lovely to see him improving."

Another seemed divided between the top and bottom of the leaderboard and wrote: "Have voted. 2 for @edballs and one for Louise Redknapp."

After heading up for a chat with co-host Claudia Winkleman, the former chancellor got a little cheeky.

She quizzed him whether he could think about "the B word" - meaning the show's Blackpool final - yet he quipped: "What, bottom?"

Then taking the question seriously, he attracted signs of affection from the crowd when he said he would love to take to the town's iconic dance venue to make Katya proud.

Meanwhile, top performers Louise and Kevin's routine came after she confessed she accidentally kicked him in the glitterballs during this week's rehearsals.

When asked by Zoe Ball if she had damaged Kevin and wife Karen Clifton's chances of kids,

Louise replied: “Oh yes. I have maybe ruined it for Kevin and Karen for life.”

She added: “Kevin told me to be really aggressive.

“So then I was really aggressive . . . Maybe slightly too aggressive.”
