This is the first Mobo award for Craig since 2001 – when he picked up gongs in three categories – and the success is something he credits solely to his supporters.

He told The Sun Online: “The overwhelming love is incredible – I wake up every morning and I’m so thankful.”

Ahead of his performance on stage, he added: “It’s good to be back in Glasgow to perform here tonight knowing I’m back here on the 3 April with my tour – for me that’s sweet.”

The Born To Do It star also revealed he feels like a teenager again when he’s performing.

Craig said: “You know what, I think when you live music, it goes beyond the recognition from sales and chart positions – it’s incredible

“What has bedded in is making music – to be back with the enthusiasm of a 16 year old 17 year old kid…

“Just to be nominated I’m grateful for – whoever wins, I pick it up on behalf of everyone.”

Celebrities and musicians were out in force for the 2016 Mobo Awards in Glasgow.

Last month, Craig celebrated his first number one album in 16 years.

His sixth studio album, Following My Intuition, shot straight to the number one spot in the UK album chart after its release.

Craig said at the time: “I don’t know what’s going on right now.

“The last number one that I had was with Born to Do It 16 years ago, so to have another and to share it with so many amazing people – it’s surreal.”

Speaking to the Official Charts company, he added: “I’m seeing two generations connecting – the people who have been with me since 1999 and the crew who are just discovering me, both connecting on the same music, it’s the most amazing feeling.

“Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.”
