Zayn Malik reveals romance with fiancée Perrie Edwards was ‘breaking down’ months before he cruelly ended it by text
The pop singer only ended things in August but he knew in March
ZAYN Malik has revealed he knew his relationship with Perrie Edwards was breaking down in early 2015 - months before he called time on it.
The former One Direction singer ended his two-year engagement to the Little Mix singer in August via text message but has now revealed he knew it was over before then.
He made the revelation in his autobiography - entitled Zayn - as he revealed the exact moment he decided to leave One Direction.
"It was March 2015. I had been in a bad place for a while and I didn't see myself getting out of it unless I made a change,” he writes.
"My relationship with my fiancée, Perrie, was breaking down. To make matters worse, there were so many crazy stories flying around in the newspapers about us, and it felt like such an invasion of privacy, it made me just want to disappear for a while."
Continuing about his exit, he wrote: "It happened that night in Hong Kong: literally, while I was going on-stage, I realised I wasn't going to do it any more. I wasn't going to spend another minute doing something which made me ill and which I no longer believed in.
"I couldn't see that there was anything left for me to give or to gain from staying. It wasn't worth it. The memory of that night is kind of a blur, I was in f***ing bits, but I finally came to the realisation of something I already knew deep down, and had known for a very long time: I was leaving the band and going home."
His candid comments come after Perrie also opened up about the break up in Little Mix's new book Our World.
She wrote: “It was horrible, the worst time in my life. A four-year relationship, two year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that.
“Even though things in my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me.”
