Jeff Beck death latest: ‘Devastated’ Johnny Depp was ‘by star’s bedside’ before Nessun Dorma legend died from meningitis

JOHNNY Depp has been left "devastated" after Jeff Beck's death, having been "by the star's bedside" before his passing.

Movie star Johnny Depp was "was by Jeff's bedside" along with "some other rock stars" before Beck's death a source told People.

The source added: "They had a really tight friendship, they were extremely close, and he got even closer over this past summer when they were touring together."

It comes as music legends have taken to social media, paying tribute to "one of the greatest" guitarists of all time including Sir and Sir .

Thefrontman wrote: "With the death of Jeff Beck we have lost a wonderful man and one of the greatest guitar players in the world. We will all miss him so much."

    British rock band Queen took to Twitter to pay tribute to Jeff Beck, who passed away on Tuesday aged 78 following a battle with meningitis.

    Queen tweeted: "RIP Jeff Beck.

    "'He was inimitable, irreplaceable - the absolute pinnacle of guitar playing.' - Brian May.

    In a hilarious interview with GuitarPlayer.com in September last year, Jeff Beck said he “hated” the 1960s and ‘70s.

    Beck said: “I didn’t like the ’60s and ’70s basically. I hated them.

    The legendary musician died suddenly after contracting bacterial meningitis his family has revealed.

    The symptoms of meningitis develop suddenly and include:

    1. A high fever over 37.5 degrees - the average human temperature
    2. being sick
    3. a headache
    4. a blotchy rash that doesn't fade when a glass is rolled over it
    5. stiffness, especially in the neck
    6. sensitivity to bright lights
    7. drowsiness, irritability or lack of energy
    8. cold hands and feet
    9. seizures

    The classic rash associated with meningitis usually looks like small, red pinpricks at first.

    But it will spread over the body and turn into red or purple blotches.

    If you press the side of a glass firmly against the skin where the rash is and it does not fade, it is a sign of blood poisoning and you should get medical help immediately.

    The Meningitis Research Foundation has warned the symptoms can easily be mistaken for a hangover.
