Green Day to receive The MTV Global Icon Award at the 2016 MTV EMAs
The American punk band will receive their award for three decades in the music industry.
AMERICAN pop punk veterans Green Day are to receive this years MTV Global Icon Award.
Having been in the industry for 30 years, the 'Holiday' rockers will be hailed for their contributions to music at the Ahoy Rotterdam ceremony, in the Netherlands, on 6th November.
Formed by vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt in 1986, the trio will also be performing at the exclusive bash which includes the likes of Tinie Tempah, Charlie XCX, and Idris Elba - who will be handing out prizes on the night.
Green Day, who have won the MTV EMA Best Rock gong three times in the past, follow in the footsteps of last year's Global Icon winners Duran Duran.
Past honourees have also included Ozzy Osbourne, Eminem, Whitney Houston, Queen and Bon Jovi.

The ‘Bang Bang’ hit makers join an already star-studded EMA lineup, which features performances by Bebe Rexha, Bruno Mars, Kings of Leon, OneRepublic, Martin Garrix, Afrojack, Shawn Mendes, DNCE, Lukas Graham and Zara Larsson.
Celebrities expected to attend include Jaden Smith, Nina Dobrev, Deepika Padukone, Jourdan Dunn, Winnie Harlow and more.
The 2016 MTV EMAs will broadcast live around the globe at 8pm GMT on 6th November.
