Stacey Solomon hits back at claims she pretends to be thick following victorious appearance on The Chase

STACEY Solomon has hit back at people who claim she pretends to be thick.

The Loose Women panellist made the comments after she wowed viewers of The Chase over the weekend by securing £60,000 for the team's cash pot from Chaser Anne Hergerty.

Heaping her co-star with praise, Coleen Nolan said: "You actually went for the £60,000, no one ever goes for the higher figure."

Stacey replied: My theory was the less questions I have to get wrong the less stupid I'll look.

"You know what, I thought I might as well go for it, I'm not Einstein but I can guess."

Jane Moore pulled the 28-year-old up on her self-deprecation, saying she was "not a stupid woman at all."

Stacey agreed, saying: "I'm not stupid, I never say that I'm stupid.

";People always say to me, why do you pretend to be so thick?

"And I'm actually like, I've got a broad Essex accent and I smile a lot, I don't pretend to be anything I'm not.

Fans of the show praised Stacey after she put the huge figure into the prize pot on Sunday night's celebrity special.

The former X Factor star took on Anne Hegerty and beat her hands down – returning to her place on the desk victorious.

Looking nervously at host Bradley Walsh, Stacey looked scared as she walked up to take her place.

However the star had nothing to be afraid of as she started to race through the questions.

Fans of the show were going wild at home as Stacey continued to answer everything correctly.

The moment she bagged £60,000 for the prize pot was a high point for the mum-of-two as she went into the final with Louise Minchin and Keith Allen.

Bradley praised Stacey after the show, telling her: “That was sensational!”

Stacey thanked her fans for watching, writing on Twitter: “Thanks for all your lovely messages & well wishes tonight! I cant believe I did that, feeling like a genius right now ha @ITV #60k.”

When she shot to fame after appearing on The X Factor, Stacey has become a TV favourite, regularly appearing on Loose Women.

In September it was revealed Stacey had been signed up by I'm A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here bosses to host the spin off show alongside Vicky Pattison and her partner Joe Swash.

The pair famously first met back in 2010 when Joe was presenting the spin-off show and Stacey was a guest on it.

Speaking about the gig, he said: “I’m a Celebrity is always my most favourite time of the year.  I cannot wait to be back at my second home with a new gang of people. As always I’m sure this series will be the best one yet.”
