Robbie Williams in surprise career change – and he’s following in Take That pal Gary Barlow’s footsteps

TAKE That legend Robbie Williams is taking on his mate Gary Barlow by planning his own range of wine.

Robbie wants to market a selection of plonk called Rude Rise – that’s despite the former hellraiser being sober for 20 years.

He’s just applied to have the name trademarked with the UK’s Intellectual Property Office.

The name is a nod to his top-selling album Rudebox.

He wants to market wines, alcopops, and even spirits using the name.

The application was filed this month and will stay in place for 10 years once rubber-stamped.

An intellectual property lawyer who has seen the papers told us: “First, the trademark bolsters his ability to take action against third parties who may be using the relevant name in the course of trade without consent.

“The mere presence of these kinds of trademarks on the register can also act as a deterrent, where a third party is considering using the name without their consent.”

Gary launched his £8 organic Spanish red and white wines a year ago and later added a rose.

He said at the time: “The definition of a great evening for me is friends, laughter and good wine.

“I've been fortunate enough to have travelled and experienced different cultures over the years and wines from across the world.

“After months of learning about the process and tasting different blends, I'm very proud to now launch my own range of organic wines from Spain.”
