McFly’s Tom Fletcher rushed to hospital with nasty eye emergency as he thanks A&E for help
MCFLY star Tom Fletcher has thanked medics after he was whisked to hospital with a debilitating eye condition.
Tom, 37, has shared a picture of himself with fans and one of his eyes is noticeably droopy in the snap.
The singer apologised for his recent absence from social media and explained that he now faces six weeks of steroid treatment, wearing sunglasses and sitting in dark rooms.
Tom wrote on Instagram: "Sorry I’ve been quiet for a bit.
"I was wiped out with some sort of illness and in bed for a few days.
"I just got back on my feet yesterday and uveitis decided to kick me down again 👁️.

"Very grateful to have a dedicated eye A&E hospital in London! It’s the 2nd time I’ve stumbled into that place holding my eyes and they’ve been amazing.
"Also, shout out to my amazing optician, Dipesh at @parkerandhammond who was giving me advice at nearly midnight last night. Hero!"
McFly frontman Tom signed off: "For now, it’s dark rooms, sunglasses and 6 weeks of steroids. Merry Christmas!"
The NHS describes uveitis as inflammation of the middle layer of the eye, called the uvea or uveal tract.

Symptoms include eye pain, redness and changes to a person's vision, such as blurry or cloudy eyesight.
The main treatment for the condition is steroids, often in the form or eye drops.
Tom's fans have been quick to rally round after learning of his eye drama.
One commented on Instagram: "Get well soon - it’s never great being poorly at Christmas x"
Another told the star: "I used to suffer loads with that so feel your pain. Rest up. X."
And a third penned: "This sucks! Get better soon. I’ve had reoccurring uveitis for about 6 years now with no helpful suggestions or remedies it’s horrible. Lucky you got sorted so quickly x."
Tom found fame in 2004 after landing a place in the band McFly, alongside Harry Judd, Dougie Poynter and Danny Jones.
