SIMON Cowell tore into Sam Lavery’s performance on Saturday’s X Factor but insisted it was all his fault.
Sam didn’t impress her mentor with her rendition of Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse Of The Heart, telling her: “You’re better than this.”
The 17-year-old looked nervous as Simon started his critique but he made it clear she wasn’t to blame.
Simon said: “I didn’t do a good enough job for you this week.
“I’m criticising myself – you’re better than this
“If anyone is listening thinking it wasn’t good enough, it was my fault.”
When the audience started to boo, Simon told them: “I can do a better job.”
Off screen, Sam’s also been in a bit of hot water with X Factor bosses.
The singer was caught getting frisky with Five After Midnight star Nathan Lewis backstage in a cupboard at last weekend’s show.
The pair faced a dressing down from bosses after production staff spotted them emerging from the tiny room.
A show source told The Sun on Sunday: “Sam and Nathan have grown very close and always sneak off when they have a chance to.
“They have been told off for it in the past few weeks, because at times it has been difficult to find them.
“When they came out of the cupboard they were dishevelled and had very guilty looks on their faces.
“A staff member even said, ‘I know you’ve been kissing why don’t you just admit it?’.”
The social media pages of Sam, 17, and 5 After Midnight star Nathan, 23, are full of pictures of them together.
