X Factor star Honey G has gushed over rapper 50 Cent after he backed the singer in the competition.
Taking a break from rehearsals ahead of this weekend’s Fright Night themed show, Honey could barely contain her excitement when she was talking to Rylan Clark and Dan Neal about the rapper’s kind words.
Honey, real name Anna Gilford, gushed: “This is incredible, I’m so excited – 50 cent has endorsed me.
“I’m so excited that he’s back me and he’s basically come out and said that I’m good for the hip hop game
“I’m so chuffed, it’s 50 cent – the show’s over now!”
Rylan asked if she’d ever go back to her day job now and Honey was adamant she wants to carry on in the industry, saying: “I want to do global tours – I want to put my day job behind me now and focus on being a rap music artist.”
Although the 35-year-old is going down a storm with her North Weezy rapper act, Honey is still trying to get her head round her new-found fame.
A source told The Sun online: “Honey G is loving the support she’s getting, it’s a completely new experience to her as she’s never really had a big circle of friends before.
“Each week at the live shows she has friends and family in the audience, but most of them are a lot younger than her.
“Now she has a big range of people showing her support and she says she’s really happy.”
Honey, with her trademark shades, baseball cap and gold lamé, didn’t survive Sharon Osbourne‘s Six Chair Challenge for the over-25s but was brought back to replace Ivy Grace who had visa troubles.
Amongst her new fans is Stephanie Davis’ mum, who posed up as the divisive act for a fun Twitter pic.
The former IT recruitment consultant from Harrow, North-West London, has been labelled a joke act but her army of fans is getting behind her on the ITV show each weekend.
The insider said: “She openly admits that she’s never felt popular in her life and refers to herself as a bit of a loner, but she’s taking this new-found popularity in her stride and trying to keep everyone happy.”
But it’s proving to be overwhelming for the former IT recruitment consultant.
The source added: “I feel a bit sorry for her, she gets really anxious when she’s being bombarded by people telling her how much they enjoy watching her on the show and she acts a little bit awkward – like she’s trying to work out if they are being genuine with her.”
“She’s a genuinely lovely woman. In the friends-and-family area after the show she always receives a huge cheer from the crowd, none of the other acts gets a reaction from the crowd like she does.
“The difference between her and a lot of the other acts is she’s willing to make each person feel appreciated, she disappears every now and then at X Factor to get breathing space, then comes straight back out to face the crowds.
“She’s a real trooper.”
Mentor Sharon, 63, said: “It’s about entertaining people and Honey G, whether you love her or you don’t love her, entertains.
“She has her own unique way of rapping and people want to see more.”
Honey launched her own club night called Luvibe in Manchester while at uni in the city and has DJ'd around the UK garage scene.
She insists: “I might not have the most amazing voice but I’m a heavyweight rapper, singer and producer and I write my own lyrics, so I’ve got real skills to bring to the table.”
