Kerry says she never wanted her mum to kill herself
KERRY Katona has denied that she tried to help her mum kill herself, revealing that she handed her pills as a “scare tactic.”
Speaking on This Morning, Kerry -who hit the headlines this when she revealed in a television therapy session that she tried to help her mum take her own life - now says that her words have been blown out of proportion.
“I’ve had people saying I should be arrested and have my children taken off me, it wasn’t like that,” she told Holly Willoughby and Ben Shepherd.
“I was doing my GCSEs, I was in foster home, my mum had lost the love of her life - he had died, it got the point where she was like, ‘I don’t wanna be here, I’ve got nothing to live for,’ so I was like ‘’ere take ya tablets, take ‘em then, you’re selfish.’
“It wasn’t like I was trying to succeed her suicide attempt. I gave her the tablets, went home. Did my GCSEs the next day, and picked her up. And that was the last time I ever saw my mum do it.
“It was a scare tactic with my mum and my mum’s never done anything like that since.”
The troubled star appeared on Channel 5’s In Therapy series when she originally made the shocking revelation where she also apologised to her children for everything she has put them through.
Kerry also revealed how another heartbreaking incident when her former drug-addict mum tried to commit suicide, saw her get a tattoo to prevent her ever doing it.
The pop star has her children’s names tattooed on her wrists to remind her of her love for them, in the hopes that should she ever feel as low to try the same, she will be stopped.
She said: “If it’s hereditary I’d have to be one selfish person to cut through my kids’ names, so that’s why they’re there.
“I’m so proud of how my kids have turned out and that’s down to me.”
Kerry has previously spoken of her horrific childhood, including an incident where she was attacked by her mum’s boyfriend.
She said in 2013: “He stabbed my mum in each breast. He threatened to cut off my legs. It was horrendous.”
But despite everything, she never blamed her mum: “I’ve never, ever blamed my mum for anything.
“I was an only child and from the moment I was born, my life was a drama. I’ve never really known any different.”
