HOLLY Willoughby showed she wasn’t to be messed with today when she snapped at reality star Danni Levy when asked if she felt she needed to prove her intelligence because she was blonde.

In wake of a campaign being launched to change the Oxford Dictionary definition of the term ‘Essex girl’, Life On Marbs star Danni was on This Morning to explain why she didn’t find the description “unintelligent, promiscuous and materialistic” offensive, but in trying to support her argument she ended up riling Holly.

Brunette Danni said: “The term ‘dumb blonde’ is in the dictionary but Holly, are you going to campaign against it?”

To which Holly awkward replied: “Well hang on a minute...”

As the debate continued and delved into whether women from Essex need to work harder to prove they’re intelligence, Danni brought up Holly’s hair colour again, asking: “Why should you have to prove that you're intelligent, just because you're blonde?”

And Holly looking visibly annoyed quickly defended herself, snapping back: “I don't think I do.”

Joined by Natasha Sawkins and Juliet Thomas from online forum The Mother Hub, who want to banish the term from the dictionary, Danni argued: “I am so surprised that these ladies are campaigning to get it changed.

“People like Amy Childs, Gemma Collins, they are pop culture icons. We don't look at them and say, "look at that Essex girl, that dumb Essex girl’.”

“It's not derogatory and you can't change it.”

To which Holly retorted, “I think you can.”

On Tuesday Towie star Gemma Collins appeared on Sky News to hit back at the “outrageous” and “derogatory” term.

Speaking to Kay Burley, she said: “Personally I think the dictionary should be paying everyone in Essex some compensation.

“We have definitely evolved over the years as Essex women.

“We can all take a laugh and a joke at ourselves Kay, you know we’re up for the banter, but it is very, very derogatory what has been said about us and it does need to be changed.”

She added: "We aren't buying white handbags any more, Essex girls are buying the Chanel bags at the end of the day.”
