The shows will feature virtual reality versions of the band – with a strong chance all four members could also reunite to perform live as talks continue.

As well as virtual and live performances, the production will address the group’s history then and now.

Tickets for the huge global production will go on sale next year, with multiple dates around the world promised by organisers.

Agnetha Fältskog, 66, Björn Ulvaeus, 71, Benny Andersson, 69, and Frida Lyngstad, 70, were last pictured together in June when they all attended a party to celebrate 50 years since songwriters Benny and Björn first met.

In 2014, Frida confessed they once turned down a $1billion deal to reform.

Speaking about the planned shows, Benny said: “We’re inspired by the limitless possibilities of what the future holds and are loving being a part of creating something new and dramatic here. A time machine that captures the essence of who we were. And are.”

Simon Fuller, Founder and CEO of XIX Entertainment: “The creativity and ideas flowing from the members of ABBA over the past few months have filled me with great excitement.

"We are exploring a new technological world, with Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence at the forefront, that will allow us to create new forms of entertainment and content we couldn’t have previously imagined.”

The most recent reunion announcement came from '80s pretty boys Bros, following in the footsteps of famously lucrative tours by The Spice Girls, Guns 'N' Roses, and of course the most successful band to reform—Take That.
