His 10-year relationship with Princess Beatrice, 27, ended in July this year when they decided that they would not be marrying.

They confirmed the split a month later, with a palace insider telling The Mail On Sunday: “After ten years together, Beatrice and Dave had to wonder why they were not married.

“They talked it through and decided to take time apart to reflect on the future. They remain friends and the decision to break up was mutual.”

While Beatrice’s mother Sarah Fergusson was “devastated” by their split, seeing Dave like a son, other members of the royal family weren’t so upset.

Rumours have long circulated that Prince William didn’t approve of the relationship and disliked Dave for being “indiscreet,” and opposed of his younger cousin marrying him.

Wills made his feelings ever clearer in 2011 when he refused to invite Dave to his and Kate’s wedding.
