BURNED ALIVE

Coronation Street spoilers: Anna Windass left in a coma after fireball horror leaves her fighting for her life

After being caught in David Platt's revenge-fantasy carnage, Anna has been put in an induced coma to let her body recover from her awful injuries

ANNA Windass has been left in a coma after she was burned alive in Coronation Street.

The cafe worker - who is played by Debbie Rush - rushed to hospital after being engulfed in the fireball caused by David Platt's car smash after he crashed into his daughter Lily as Anna's son Gary tried to save her.

Now actress Debbie has been revealed that Anna will be left suffering horrific injuries after the incident, and have to learn to walk again once she wakes from her induced coma.

She said: “For Anna, certainly at the beginning, it is nothing to do with how it looks, it is so horrific, she has got full thickness burns on her legs she has to learn to walk again and learn to accept it herself, in her head she will be thinking where does this lead, how will she be, will she ever be anywhere like she was before.”

And Debbie revealed that she didn’t think twice when asked but doing her own stunts for the fire scenes: “When Kate arrived we had lots of discussions about what was coming up for Anna and after a few weeks she asked me to pop up and said there was something she wanted to run by me.

"She said ‘how do you feel about being set on fire?’ and straight away I said ‘yes, it’s not often you get to be James Bond in Corrie so I will do it.’

“She made it clear from the start that she was asking me how I would feel about actually being set on fire, that if I was OK with it there wouldn’t be a stunt double playing that part it would be me.

"She said if I wasn't comfortable at any point the stunt double could be used. But I was determined to do it myself.”

Debbie also revealed how Kevin will cope with Anna as she recovers, and whether Anna will question whether he's remaining with her out of loyalty.

“Kevin has come into her life and he is loving and kind and gentle and he just wants to look after her and be there for her and it has taken her a long time to accept it," she added.

"Finally she has done and they were due to move into together, finally everything was coming good and then this awful tragedy happened.

“Anna is put in an induced coma and when she comes round the first thing she is thinking is that she doesn't want Kevin there out of pity, she wants him to love her not pity her and she doesn't want him to feel he has to look after her - this is not what he signed up for.

Anna and Kevin were seen celebrating after agreeing to move in together and taking their relationship to the next level, but all that was undone by David Platt's revenge murder fantasy.

After escaping from the cellar in the Bistro and making his way to the car he bought to carry out his suicidal murder mission to kill his wife Kylie's murderer, he covered himself and the car in petrol to stop his family from stopping him.

But in an awful twist, David's daughter Lily slipped out of Fiz's care and went wandering into the street just as David drove off.

As he careered down the cobbles, lighter still in hand, his speed picked up and he spotted Lily too late to stop.

Desperately swerving to avoid his daughter, David flipped the car, and with Gary Windass running into the road to try to save Lily, he hit both of them and became trapped under the car.

It took the collective effort of all the street's residents to lift the car so Anna can reach in and drag Lily and Gary to safety.

Safely taken back to his family, David looked on in horror at the destruction he'd caused but it had yet to end.

Lily was none the worse for wear after her horrifying ordeal

After she managed to get Gary out just in time, the car exploded and Anna was knocked over. But as she got up, a fireball erupted and flew at her, engulfing her in flames.

The cobbles favourite stood with her legs on fire screaming as the others tried to put the flames out and save her.

Later, Anna was clearly in shock as she was rushed to hospital and was left unconscious.

As the police began to investigate what happened, the Platts closed ranks in order to protect David from the consequences

Meanwhile, a pregnant Michelle Connor was left shaking on the stairs after the car explosion and taken to hospital.

And Fiz was left bereft at the thought she caused the entire incident after taking her eyes off Lily for a second.
