Corrie fans in shock after Anna Windass catches fire after David Platt’s car explodes on the cobbles

FANS went into meltdown on Twitter after Anna Windass was set alight after a car exploded on the cobbles.

David had threatened to blow himself up earlier in the episode and sped down the street in his car covered in petrol.

His car flipped over leaving Gary and Lily trapped underneath.

Neighbours managed to free them, but the carnage didn't end there.

David's revenge ended with a horrifying ordeal for Anna Windass as she was engulfed in a fireball.

The cafe worker – played by actress Debbie Rush – was left screaming as her legs burned in the terrifying scenes which aired before the watershed.

She had just been celebrating as she had agreed to move in with boyfriend Kevin and take their relationship to the next level.

Fans couldn't believe what had happened, with one fan writing "Corrie almost gave me a heart attack tonight! So much drama!"

Another simply wrote: "Crikey."

Someone else said: "OMG #CoronationStreet I'm shaking"

Viewers even liked the prewatershed scenes to horror flick Final Destination.

One added: "Flipping heck! Anna's legs catching on fire was like a scene from a horror film #Corrie."

Despite their shock, fans applauded the acting in the episode.

One Twitter user wrote: "Most dramatic #CoronationStreet ever!!!! Such good acting"

Another described it as " one of the best bits of soap opera filming ever".

The shocking scenes affected some viewers with one Tweeting: "No I'm not ok someone hug me."

The episode ended with Anna lying unconscious in hospital.

Corrie rounded off a dramatic night in Soapland after James Barton died in tonight's Emmerdale, after the soap hadkept viewers guessing right up until the last minute with Aaron Dingle and Rhona Goskirk’s lives also hanging in the balance after the horror smash from Thursday’s episodes.
