Emmerdale viewers shocked as James dies but left thrilled as Aaron survives

Viewers were left on the edge of their seats as James died after deranged ex Emma tried to kill him in hospital

EMMERDALE viewers were left shocked as wicked Emma got her way and James Barton died but were thrilled as Aaron survives and 'Robron' lives on.

Fans of the ITV soap were kept on the edge of their seats this week as James survived being kidnapped, drugged, pushed off a bridge, landing on a car, and being crashed into, only to die in hospital as the doctors battled to save him.

However, after such an intense week that saw the unlucky farmer go through hell and eventually die, many viewers were delighted that Aaron managed to survive the horror crash that left a bunch of the villagers injured and finally get engaged to Robert.

Viewers took to Twitter in their droves to react to the shocking conclusion of super soap week.

One wrote: "Thank god it wasn't Aaron #Emmerdale."

Plenty of others agreed writing: "What a relief, thought it was Aaron for a minute #emmerdale," while another said: "I literally screamed when I saw Aaron alive thank god he didn't die @emmerdale #Emmerdale."

Someone else added: "All I have to say is thank god it wasn't Aaron. Could deal with it being any of the others but that would've been too much. #Emmerdale."

Of course, plenty of soap fans were left unimpressed that Emma survived after everything she did to James.

However, many were left hoping that Ashley will remember seeing her in her wedding dress after she pushed James off the bridge.

But with his dementia will any of the villagers believe him?

One viewer wrote: "I really hope that Ashley remembers it was Emma up on the bridge and she gets caught, the nasty cow #Emmerdale."

Another agreed: "Question is Ashley knows Emma was on the bridge but can't remember, will his memory come back, will Emma kill him too if it does? #Emmerdale."

Emmerdale continues on Monday at 7pm on ITV.
