Loose Women fans thank Beverley Callard for talking ‘so openly and beautifully’ about her battle with clinical depression

BEVERLEY Callard has been congratulated by Loose Women viewers for sharing such an honest account of her battle with clinical depression.

The Coronation Street actress, 59, has suffered with mental illness since her thirties and this year took a two month break from the soap after her anti-depressant drug was discontinued leaving her feeling like she was “sinking.”

Speaking about her illness to the panel, Beverley who was once in hospital for 12 weeks due to her depression said: “One person in our industry said ‘well you’ll probably never work again as you’ve had clinical depression as you might be flaky and unreliable.’

“Of course you’re not, I think depression is a curse of the strong in a way and sometimes your mind just works against you.”

Fans immediately flooded Twitter, thanking her for speaking so openly about it.

Some “loved her attitude” with comments such as “Absolutely love your attitude to your depression and you're so brave to keep highlighting it You are lovely”, and “talking so openly and so beautifully about #depression. Love that woman.”

And many others were grateful to her for bringing attention to the disease which can too often be treated as a taboo subject.

One fan said: “great chat. So grateful for you bringing clinical depression to the fore. So helpful. Glad you're so well xx”, wihile another remarked, “loosewomen hats off to Bev, i have PTSD n i always tell everyone that I'm in contact with plz or offend. Not always understood tho”
