READY, SET, BAKE!

When does Junior Bake Off start, who are the judges and can I apply to be on the show?

AS millions of families across the country enjoy Great British Bake Off, a new generation of bakers has been inspired to get their bake on — so it only makes sense the BBC decided to make Junior Bake Off, a spin-off show for kids.

Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming fourth series of Junior Bake Off.

What is Junior Bake Off?

The BAFTA-winning GBBO spin-off sees 40 British kids aged nine to 12 compete in a series of challenges, including cake, biscuit, bread and pastry bakes, as well as knowledge tests (for example, identifying spices in jars using only their sense of smell).

As in the original series, tasks include a Technical Bake and a Showstopper Challenge, and only four talented bakers will make it through to the grand finale episode.

Can I apply to be on Junior Bake Off 2016?

Unfortunately, applications for series four closed in May. In fact, the series started filming in the summer!

But keep an eye out for news of a fifth series, as you may be able to apply next time if you're the right age and a resident of the UK.

Who's judging Junior Bake Off this year?

Chef and food writer Allegra McEvedy will return as a judge this year, joining new judge Nadiya Hussain, the winner of last year's Great British Bake Off.

Nadiya said: "I’m delighted to be joining Junior Bake Off as a judge. This time last year I was in the Bake Off tent and now I get to go back and help encourage the next generation to get their bake on. I am so excited to have this opportunity."

The top baker had been tipped to replace Mary Berry on GBBO when it moved to Channel 4, but she said she was "too busy" to take on the role.
