Woman who rang This Morning about abusive fiance has now left him and thanked show for saving her
Viewers have praised the team for helping Marie escape her abusive relationship
PHILLIP Schofield has revealed This Morning helped save a woman from an abusive relationship following her phone call to the show last week.
Phillip, alongside his co-host Holly Willoughby, begged caller Marie to leave her fiancé after she admitted he had been violent towards her.
The harrowing call played on many of This Morning’s viewers’ minds but on Wednesday, Phillip and the team – including agony aunt Deirdre Sanders – confirmed she had left her partner.
Deirdre said: “A lot of people were coming to me because they were really worried.
“The good news is Marie has taken very definite steps, she is coming out of that relationship.
“Marie said she recorded the interview and watched it back and thought ‘What am I doing here? I must get out.’
“The great thing is we helped Marie really see it for herself and helped her find the courage to take very practical steps to end it.
“I really feel as though she’s been saved from what could have been a dreadful and very risky life.”
Viewers of the show praised the team and their actions in advising Marie.
One tweeted: “Well done Deidre and TM crew.”
Another wrote: “Don't know the lady...but thank you for helping her. There by the grace god!”
A third added: “Thank goodness Marie deserves better, I wish her all the best for her future. Well done.”
The upsetting call came in to the This Morning team on 12 October.
Caller Marie broke down in tears as she revealed she was planning to marry her fiancé next spring but was having doubts.
Explaining that over the past few months his behaviour had “changed” towards her, she said: “He’s been working later, has put a password on his computer and his phone and doesn’t take my calls.”
When asked if he had confronted him, she revealed that was when he had hit her – after ‘blowing up’ on her after she approached the subject.
Marie also revealed that he had started buying a woman at work flowers and she suspected he was having an affair.
Deidre echoed Philip’s sentiment and added: “This is no way to head towards marriage. Tell him it doesn’t help you getting angry.”
