Pictures and gifs of the video have been circulating on social media, leading to embarrassment for the star.

A source told The Sun: "This video is years old. Shayne was single at the time and it happened when he was on tour with War of the Worlds.

"He's so embarrassed this has happened. The conversation between him and the supposed woman have left him hugely red faced.

"He can't believe anyone would do this.

"He thought it was a private chat and a one-off and only realised he had been catfished after the video emerged today."

It is not known when the video was recorded or who by, but a now-deleted  Twitter account recently offered copies of the video for sale.

A rep for Shayne had no comment.

winner, who recently signed another year-long contract for Corrie, has become the latest in a line of male celebrities to be catfished in this way.

Last week, X Factor star Sam Callahan exclusively told The Sun Online about his shame of being recorded performing a series of sex acts on himself.

His video was also circulated on Twitter and Tumblr - just like Shayne's.

Sam also fell victim to a catfish

Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online, Sam told us: "This was a couple of years ago. I was only a teenage lad, I hold my hands up."

Despite the Twitter account which tried to sell copies of the video being quickly suspended, it made its way onto social media and began circulating, leaving Sam exposed.

What is catfishing?

Catfishing is the act of a person creating a different identity online for nefarious purposes.

It is most often used by people to seduce someone else on the internet by using pictures and videos of other people to trick the victim into falling for them, or in the case of Sam, performing sex acts on webcam.

Named after the movie of the same name, which saw Nev Schulman discover his online girlfriend was actually a 40-something, married mother of two.

It has also spawned an MTV reality series which follows Nev as he helps other people uncover their catfishes.

Sam said the video's release was due to him being 'catfished' which means Sam thought he was talking to one person, when in reality he was performing for another, who then recorded the interaction.

Sam fell victim to a similar leak in 2013, after a glamour model he had been sexting revealed some of the naked pictures he had sent to her.

He told us: "I was young and foolish back then in 2013 and I was young and foolish in 2014 too, unfortunately I wrongly trusted the person I was speaking to at the time and was completely betrayed and catfished.

"It's not something that would happen now. I'm way too focused and driven to put myself in that risky situation, but I guess we live and learn."
