GOOD Morning Britain viewers were sent into a frenzy today as the feud between long-time rivals Alan Sugar and Piers Morgan led to an explosive on-air showdown.

The pair have been embroiled in a long-running spat, and they took their rivalry to TV today with a good-natured bout on the GMB sofa.

Viewers couldn't help chuckling at the amusing barbs they threw at each other - and many suggested the pair should be given their own show.

At the beginning of his interview, Piers literally squared up to Lord Sugar to as he walked on to the set, shunning a handshake to raise his fists in a mock fight pose.

However, they soon got down to business as they exchanged barbs during a two-part interview.

Piers threw the first verbal punch, joking: "[He is] Britain's best businessman... at least in his mind."

Lord Sugar then hit back by mocking Piers' role as a morning TV presenter, declaring he might "put viewers off their breakfast".

Piers later asked his rival: "Have you ever wondered what would have happened with your career if you had been blessed with good looks?"

Lord Sugar then quipped: "Pot kettle black".

During the first round, Piers also teased Lord Sugar about his estimated £1 billion fortune by showing him a clip of fellow Apprentice host Donald Trump belittling his finances.

Alan hit back by poking fun at Morgan for getting fired from the UK version of the hit reality show before going on to win Trump's US version.

The businessman also joked about the show's microphones not being turned off during breaks in filming and joked that he was caught saying: "That Piers Morgan is a right idiot".

The jibes kept fans guessing about who would come out on top and, after the second part concluded, many decided it was a fair fight which ended in a draw.

One viewer took to Twitter to write: "@piersmorgan @Lord_Sugar Good fun ! Honourable draw !"

Another suggested the pair should have their own show, but only after the 9pm watershed, writing: "@piersmorgan @Lord_Sugar should have their own chat show after 9 pm .. Loving the bants..."

One other wrote: "@piersmorgan @Lord_Sugar You 2 look great on the @GMB sofa together ! More of that please, especially the #trumptalk".

However, many felt sorry for GMB co-host Susanna Reid.

The pair had a spat of their own after Lord Sugar called her "love".

One wrote: "@GMB @LordSugar @piersmorgan the perfect pair you can not help but love them but poor @susannareid100 having to put up with them both..."

Another added: "Must admit I love the banter between you two. Could watch you all day score points off each other. Brilliant."

One more wrote: "Who needs Pay Per View Boxing when you can watch @piersmorgan and @Lord_Sugar trade blows with each other on @GMB +1.Priceless stuff."

The pair have been embroiled in a feud for years and often trade insults via social media.

Lord Sugar recently reignited the spat by criticising a segment Piers recently presented on the creepy clown craze which has been sweeping Britain.

He took to Twitter to call him "the biggest clown on the sofa".

The business mogul made the appearance on GMB today to promote the latest series of The Apprentice, which is currently airing.

He recently revealed he threatened to quit the show unless the format was changed.
