Coronation Street viewers sent into a meltdown as Ken Barlow suffers a stroke
Fans are left terrified the Corrie favourite could be leaving the cobbles forever
CORONATION Street fans were sent into a meltdown on Monday night after Ken Barlow suffered a shocking stroke - just as he was set to leave for a cruise.
Viewers were left terrified that the only remaining original character on the soap - played by William Roache - was going to be killed off.
Ken's shocking stroke came after he furiously argued with his son Peter Barlow - who made a shock return to Wetherfield - after he caught him returning to the house at 2am, claiming to have been at a job interview.
But as Ken continued to get worked up about Peter’s secret – and assuming he was still drinking – he clutched his chest and collapsed in the hallway.
Viewers took to Twitter in their droves to lament after poor Ken who collapsed in the front hall.
One wrote: "I wasn't expecting that Ken, you better be OK!!"
Another said: "Aww no, poor Ken, that was so sad to see!"
Someone else added: "Poor Ken off on his holidays and then this happens!"
Another wrote: "I was just thinking how amazing Ken Barlow looks for his age and he goes and has a bloody stroke!"
Despite the shock, many were pleased that Corrie is back on top form with some gripping storylines, which saw David locked in a cellar after they discover his suicide video.
One wrote: "Best #Corrie episodes in a while, they are upping their game and I'm loving the lack of spoilers. Bodes well for the rest of this week!"
Another added: "This is fantastic, amazing episodes tonight! #Corrie."
