TV co-stars with real life rifts – from frosty MasterChef duo to Corrie star branded ‘nasty piece of work’

THEY'RE on-screen pals who spend all day, every day together filming in close proximity - but behind the scenes it's sometimes a different story.

While fans would assume celebs who work together are also close in real life, some regard their co-stars simply as colleagues - or worse.

Recently, pregnant Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby addressed her alleged feud with Vicky Pattison, claiming they were never anything more than work mates.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Charlotte, 32, revealed: "We were never really friends in the first place... I don’t think we were, we were probably just workmates.

"There wasn’t really a fallout, but she just moved on and we went our separate ways. We haven’t spoken."

They aren't the only colleagues to reportedly clash off-air; here we reveal other TV co-stars who've had a frosty relationship away from the cameras.

'We've never been to each other's houses'

Gregg Wallace and John Torode

They've known each other since 1991 and have worked together for nearly two decades - but MasterChef judges John, 57, and Gregg, 57, are "not as friendly off screen" and have never even been to each other's pads.

John previously revealed: "It's well documented that we don't socialise outside of work.

"We've never been to each other's houses. We've never really cooked for each other.

"We spend a lot of time together, sharing a lot of things: emotion, food, pressure and changing people's lives.

"17 years on, it's still a relationship that is calm and in good stead. I think it's an amazing thing."

They were both known for their feisty on-screen characters, but EastEnders stars Jessie Wallace, 50, and the late Barbara Windsor came to blows off camera.

TV agent Melanie Blake revealed the moment, telling The Sun: "I was in the Queen Vic and I saw Jessie Wallace and Barbara Windsor blow up at each other off-camera in a scene like I have never seen broadcast.

“They went at it like cats. A lot of people would have run for cover, but I was like, 'Hello showbiz'."

Peggy Mitchell star Babs - who died aged 83 in December 2020 - also spoke about their feud, saying: ";She was young. She was always late.

“I lost my temper. I erupted. I am so sorry I did that now. It wasn’t very nice. I felt like one of the Krays. Afterwards, I burst into tears."

'You nasty piece of work'

There's more than enough on-screen conflict on Corrie, but there's been drama away from the cobbled street, too.

In an old social media rant on Twitter, comedian John Thomson, 53, who played Jesse Chadwick for two years, aired his views on Sean Tully actor Antony Cotton while the latter was in the I'm A Celeb jungle in 2011.

To the surprise of some of the cast, he wrote: "Antony Cotton - the truth will out. You nasty piece of work, you are doing yourself no favours."

According to Digital Spy, when asked what Cotton had been like to work with on the ITV1 soap, he added: "Trouble with a capital T."

While Antony never responded, his co-star Kym Marsh leapt to his defence, writing in New! magazine: "I was surprised that ex-Corrie star and actor John Thomson felt the need to say on Twitter that Antony was a 'nasty piece of work'.

"Not only is it unprofessional, it's also untrue - Antony hasn't got a nasty bone in his body."

No cast does a feud quite like the TOWIE lot, and they always know how to make sparks fly - both on and off the Essex set.

Back in April, Ella was reportedly involved in a nightclub 'brawl' with co-star Chloe.

According to reports, Chloe threw an ice bucket at Ella's head on a night out but hit another woman instead.

The pair initially joined the ITV2 show three years ago, but fell out when Ella thought that Chloe was spending more time with Kelsey, though they later made up.

On screen, Shane and Janet played Neighbours married couple Joe and Lynn Scully - but they were far from happy families in real life.

Shane sued the show for wrongful termination of his contract, and in court admitted suffering from "amphetamine hangovers" on the set in April 2003 that affected his performances.

However he denied being aggressive or unprofessional and ultimately went on to win the case.

According to reports, he claimed Janet didn't like him and was behind most of the "nit-picking" complaints to producers.

'An odious chore'

Sharon Osbourne and Dannii Minogue

They were both judges on The X Factor alongside Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh, but Sharon and Dannii infamously fell out in 2007.

Sharon revealed in her autobiography Unbreakable that she found the time they spent together "an odious chore", after Dannii had a fling with head judge Simon, leaving her and Louis feeling like ";gooseberries".

Years later the cheeky judge reportedly drew a penis onto the star's picture that hangs in the corridor of Fountain Studios just outside her dressing room - with Irish mentor Louis allegedly egging her on while she did it.

'Silly old man'

Louis Walsh and Cheryl

The pair's public feud goes way back to when Louis fell out with Girls Aloud after labelling them fat.

In 2010 Louis accused her of believing the ITV series was “her show” and taunted her on-air for looking orange.

Cheryl hit back, saying: “Louis is a silly old man looking for attention.” Ooo!

'Major personality clash'

They're known for their strong opinions in front of the cameras, but the Loose Women presenters are generally pals - however there have been rumours of rifts between the co-stars.

Back in 2012 there were reports suggesting Denise Welch had refused to appear alongside fellow panellist Janet Street-Porter.

Last year when they did appear together, viewers were stunned when they clashed in a row over Meghan Markle.

Denise has denied rumours of a rift, saying: "I have never once had an argument with any single girl off stage in that show in 20 years. Never once.
