Gigi Hadid blasted by fans on Twitter for getting boyfriend Zayn Malik’s ethnicity wrong
The model claimed her boyfriend was 'half-Middle Eastern' but he's Pakistani descent
GIGI Hadid has come under fire from fans after getting boyfriend Zayn Malik's ethnicity wrong.
The supermodel make the error during an interview with Gulf news which took place on her recent visit to Dubai.
Gigi, who is of Palestinian-American and Dutch descent, said to the publication: "When someone comes up to me and they tell me, ‘I’m Palestinian’ and we make a connection, it’s beautiful.
"My boyfriend is also half Middle Eastern. It’s just a connection that you make that’s really cool. It’s hard to explain but you feel like you’re amongst [your] people."
Fans were quick to point out the mistake on social media due to the fact Zayn's father is a British Pakistani while his mother is British with Irish heritage.
The Middle East is comprised of Western Asia and Egypt, while Pakistan is situated in Southern Asia.
Fans of Zayn - who was born and raised in Bradford - flocked to Twitter to mock the model's mistake as one wrote: "Gigi Hadid said Zayn was half Middle Eastern. GURL PAKISTAN IS A SOUTH ASAIN COUNTRY. LEARN YA GEOGRAPHY".
Another added: " just to let you know Zayn is Pakistani, which is in South Asia. Just in case you didn't read his profile properly before signing."
One fan quipped:"@GiGiHadid thinks Pakistan is in the middle east that's why education is important people!"
Gigi, whose real name is Jelena Noura Hadid,
hooked up after Zayn split with ex fiancee and Little Mix star Perrie Edwards.
They have been an item since the start of the year though are said to have briefly split this summer.
Zayn then revealed he had quit the UK to relocate to the States so he could be nearer to Gigi.
