Stephen Bear came under attack from followers on social media after he seemingly dressed up as a clown due to the recent burst of creepy sightings across the nation.

With the current clown craze causing schools and hospitals to be on high alert for ill-meaning pranksters, fans of Celebrity Big Brother champion were left far from impressed by his choice of costume on Friday night.

Stephen posted a picture of himself with a clown mask on and wielding a hammer with fans who immediately began to scold the Ex On The Beach star.

One disgusted follower wrote: "What an absolute idiotic individual you are.. grow the fuck up and hope no child in your family is ever terrified to go to school alone ...#insensitivepieceofchildishsh*t your going to the extreme of desperately trying to be famous."

Another added, "Not even funny@stevie_bear this has had a massive effect on people at the moment with them also being hurt I like you but this I don't take it down know ones laughing."

One Instagram wrote: "Wow..pretty sure your niece wouldn't find this quite as funny as you."

Another added: "Usually find him funny but this is inappropriate at this time. I'm not a fan of jokes for the sake of controversy."

While most chided the reality star for being "desperate", "childish" and "not funny", some came to his defence as one wrote: "Its a joke relax people like cop on everyone has a joke."

The clown craze started in America and has spread to the UK, with reports of clowns appearing in Australia and other countries.

People wear the scary outfits and masks to deliberately frighten others and have caused chaos and fear throughout Britain as they continue to terrorise.
