BEST mates Ben Mitchell and Jay Brown were reunited on Thursday night's Eastenders - and there wasn't a dry eye in the house as the pair met for the first time in weeks.

Convicted sex offender Jay– who is played by actor Jamie Borthwick – left the Square last month after being abandoned to the police by Grant Mitchell after he rescued a kidnapped Ben from Paul’s killers.

Jay, who had been selling drugs and had been on a downward spiral, was spotted by Pam Coker as she donated clothes to the homeless shelter.

She then discovered that he had been living on the streets and had been applying for sanctuary in the homeless shelter when they ran into each other.

Kind-hearted Pam managed to convince Jay to return to Albert Square, and no sooner had he arrived in the market Ben had spotted him and charged towards him.

Ben looked elated at he hugged his best mate - after feeling low that he had lost everyone he relied on.

The pair couldn't help but beam at each other as they hugged, with Ben holding Jay's head in his hands and asking: "Where have you been?"

Pam couldn't help but tell the boys to give each other another hug - and the episode ended on a rare high note for all involved.

Fans of the soap were delighted with the move - and were left wiping away tears of happiness at witnessing the twosome see each other again.

Others praised Pam for talking Jay round and said: "Awwww JAY!! Pam's so wonderful trying to help. & she's right, Ben does need his best friend, now more than ever"

Some also commented on the pairs friendship and added: "Ben and Jay and their bromance is adorable. #Eastenders"

While others were annoyed that the pair weren't together romantically and said: "I wish a man would run into my arms like Ben ran into Jay's. And it's a shame Jay isn't gay as they'd make a great couple "
