MARRIAGE viewers tonight all had the same complaint about the "confusing" BBC drama's ending.

The series follows couple Emma (Nicola Walker) and Ian (Sean Bean) who have been married for nearly 30 years.

Marriage gave viewers a glimpse into the sometimes mundane aspects of wedded life.

Tonight the show came to an end, and saw their daughter move back in temporarily, before leaving again.

We also saw Emma struggle to come to terms with the loss of her baby many years ago.

But it was the final scene that had viewers confused, and asking, "Is that it?".

The show ended with Emma and Ian in bed, having a chat before going to sleep.

Some viewers found this ending "confusing", and started to question what the whole series had actually been about.

Taking to Twitter this viewer vented: "I was hanging in there with this BBC drama #marriage but last few scenes have been pathetic dialogue and narrative is oddest ever, editing it is crazy as well."

This one then tweeted: "I really don’t know what to make of #marriage .. a slice of life certainly,but anything more?"

While this viewers said: "Is that it? I'm confused! #marriage"

Another added: "Marriage seems too be very awkward, confusing and a rather strange plot too the whole show tbh."

This viewer didn't hold back: "I feel that a waste of 4 hours that I’ll never get back. And don’t get me started on that awful music. Terrible. #marriage."

Another simply wrote: "Why #Marriage?"

But there were many fans who loved the show, with this one tweeting: "Seen lots of negative posts about #Marriage I thought it was brilliant. The tension was palpable, thanks to the acting from the first class cast."

While another commented: "#marriagebbc loved it, it was real. Bean, Walker and Bolam were brilliant."

This viewer rushed to the show's defence: "Not sure why #marriagebbc is getting bad reviews. Sean Bean deserves an Oscar, what a performance."

The BBC are yet to announce if the show will be back for another series.
