Guy Ritchie in talks with Disney to direct live-action Aladdin remake
Remake of 1992 classic expected to keep musical numbers
GET ready to relive the magic of Disney's Aladdin all over again as Guy Ritchie is being lined-up to direct a live-action remake of the animated classic.
The Snatch director will join forces with producer Dan Lin and his Lin Pictures company.
They previously teamed up together on the Sherlock Holmes films.
Also in the mix according to is Big Fish writer John August.
The original animated Aladdin became the highest grossing film of 1992 and scooped Oscars for best score and best song for A Whole New World.
It told the story of street urchin Aladdin who discovered a lamp containing a magical genie and his quest to win the heart of a princess.
While Guy is expected to keep the show-stopping musical numbers, one non-traditional element is said to be the director's usual non-linear storytelling.
No word as yet on casting, but whoever takes on the role of the blue genie originally portrayed by the late Robin Williams will have some big shoes to fill.
