Jodie Comer and star of The Crown in frame to play Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy in Wagatha TV drama
THE Wagatha Christie trial is to be made into a TV drama — with Jodie Comer in the frame to play Coleen Rooney and Emerald Fennell as Rebekah Vardy.
At least three production companies are racing to seal a deal for the blockbuster, which could be screened as a movie or as a series.
Pitches include the creators of BBC1 court drama A Very British Scandal. They have on board writer Sarah Phelps — whose biggest TV hits have been adaptations of Agatha Christie whodunnits, including The Witness for the Prosecution.
A TV insider said: “The creative teams are determined to sign up major league actors.
"Jodie and Emerald have the gravity to pull off performances as two strong women locking horns in court.
“This is a race to deliver a serious depiction of the chain of events that saw the Wagatha case end up in court.”

The drama came to a head last week when Rebekah lost her libel claim against Coleen, who accused her of leaking stories.
Channel 4 have already confirmed that they are making a documentary-drama and it has been reported that Coleen had signed to make a documentary with Netflix.
Wayne Rooney’s wife Coleen — who was seen at Man United’s friendly with Rayo Vallecano yesterday — is a fan of fellow Scouser Jodie, 29, and congratulated her when she won a Bafta in 2019 for playing an assassin in BBC’s Killing Eve.
Multi-talented Emerald, 36, who played Camilla Parker Bowles in The Crown, wrote the second series of Killing Eve and in 2020 won the Best original Screenplay Oscar for Promising Young Woman.
